ABSTRACT: DESI (Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument) is already starting its 5-year survey, which will ultimately collect more than 30 million spectra. It will greatly deepen our understanding of the Universe, the cosmology, the galaxy evolution and all other astronomical sciences. The Chinese Space Station Telescope (CSST) is an image survey covering > 17000 square degrees. The combination of the image and spectra will broaden the constraint on the galaxy evolution. In this talk, I will discuss the galaxy evolution from two aspects: 1) the circumgalactic mediun (CGM) study in the DESI era, 2) and the all-sky dwarf galaxy search using both CSST and DESI survey data.

BIO: Prof. Huanian Zhang’s main research interest is on the galaxy formation and evolution, specifically on studying the circumgalactic medium and the low mass systems to understand the galaxy evolution. Prof. Zhang got his bachelor from Shandong University in 2011 and the PhD from the University of Arizona in Physics in 2016. After that, he moved to the Steward Observatory (University of Arizona) as a postdoc fellow until 2021. In September 2021, Prof. Zhang joined HUST as an associate professor.
